One year ago I was finishing up my second full time bridal season as a professional makeup artist and I was feeling so inspired by the autumn weddings and elopements that had been a part of. I began to dream of a shoot that was my absolute ideal autumn bridal look…burgundy florals, changing leaves, a runaway wedding in the mountains.
I quickly connected with Melissa from White Olive Photography and as soon as I shared my vision with her I knew that she was the perfect photographer for the project. Melissa had the perfect couple in mind for the shoot, and she could not have been more right. Josh + Jen were the absolute dream models, and because of their real love for each other our photos had that much more chemistry and connection.
We also collaborated with Chelsea from Fern and Frond Floral Design on all of the gorgeous florals which she hand created for the photos. The blush tones with hints of burgundy and greenery were exactly what I was dreaming of and Jen’s flower crown was absolutely to die for.
I knew from the very beginning that I wanted Jen’s dress to be long sleeved. The wonderful ladies at Aglow Events had the perfect long sleeved, lace detailed dress that fit Jen perfectly! The dress paired with Josh’s simple khakis and dress shirt was the perfect mix of formal and casual, and they looked like the perfect bohemian couple.
When it came to hair and makeup, I wanted to create a glamorous, yet natural bridal look that complemented Jen’s striking features. With an emphasis on flawless, luminous skin, a neutral eye and kissable, rose-toned lips, Jen’s makeup look highlighted every detail of the shoot perfectly. Jen’s sister Melissa created the most beautiful half-up braided hairstyle to compliment the flower crown that Chelsea had made. This makeup look will forever be one of my favourites I have ever created.
We shot the entire shoot in the Tranquille Creek area of Kamloops, British Columbia and the colours were absolutely perfect! With Kamloops Lake visible in the background along with the hoodoos that we are so lucky to have here in Kamloops, the setting was simply beautiful, especially at sunset.
We spent the entire afternoon running through fields, climbing mountains and singing along to Bob Seger. Josh + Jen captured the free-spirited, bohemian vibe that I had been imagining in my head for so long so perfectly and my heart was so full seeing this vision finally come to life thanks to all of the incredible vendors who agreed to collaborate with me.
A few months after the shoot I received an email stating that our work was going to be featured in Rocky Mountain Bride and it truly was a dream come true. Josh + Jen’s Styled Vow Renewal was my first piece of published work and I am so proud of the images that we all created. This shoot will forever hold a special place in my heart and I am so thankful to have the opportunity to partake in creative projects like these.
